DemocracyCraft players are starting to react to Plura72’s bills, and there has been a petition to remove him from Congress, and to ban him from running for House of Representatives and Senate ever again.
MrNeighbor, the creator of a recent petition in the DemocracyCraft Discord server, claims that Plura72 “can’t make good bills”, and that Plura “tried to establish the papacy in this Government and attempted to remove co-sponsors so he could propose his awful ideas to Congress”.
Here’s the full quote:
“This guy can’t make good bills, I mean what the hell is the AMIR UBER EATS Act and text me back lil vro Act! My guy tried to establish the papacy in this Government and attempted to remove co-sponsors so he could propose his god awful bills to Congress. To solve this problem from ever occurring again, I hereby propose the idea of constitutionally prohibiting Plura72 from EVER holding a Congressional seat and making it a responsibility for the Department of State to reject Plura’s bids to run for office.”
— MrNeighbor
Currently, the petition has 6 AYE’s and 2 NAY’s, meaning that there are players that agree with MrNeighbor’s views, and would like to see this petition be approved and implemented. Though, there have been some people that are against this idea.
CastoloGR: Plura72, what are your thoughts about this petition? What are your thoughts on the fact that it seems people don’t like your bills?
“I am considering legal action against MrNeighbor for defamation and slander. According to the constitution everyone has access to running in Office and participating in such.”
— Plura72
While Plura72’s bills and other actions have clearly angered some of the populace, it would likely be unconstitutional to suggest for a Congressperson to be removed from office and banned from running without first being convicted of a crime. Even if the petition succeeded, Congress would likely not be able to carry it out, as it has no power to ban specific people from running simply for putting forward low quality bills. Both Electoral Manager Angryhamdog and Senator Inknet have noted this publicly.
“If you get banned from Congress for making unpopular bills, I don’t think we are in a democracy anymore” is what the latter mentioned in the petition thread, adding “I do not support this.”
A petition like this simply falls into the void, with no constitutional way to action it. While the petition itself may be democratic, critics argue that its aims may in fact be fundamentally undemocratic.
Even if the petition reaches enough AYEs, Congress likely can’t and won’t take the kind of action it’s requesting – however, its passage would send a strong message to the Representative himself that his actions are deeply unpopular.
