This Sunday morning, acting President lcn announced his approval of the Election Foundations Act, thus initiating a public referendum for its approval, as it affects election law. Describing the law, the President said, “This amendment will remove the election systems for the House of Representatives, Senate, and Presidential elections from the Constitution, and allow them to be defined in law, thus only requiring a majority approval in the Congress and presidential assent to be signed into law.”
“Currently, election system changes require 2/3 approval in the Congress, presidential assent, and 2/3 approval via public referendum in order to be ratified. Essentially, this amendment will make election systems easier to be amended/changed.”
The President also said that, if the referendum is successful, he will also sign the Electoral Standards Act, changing the electoral system for Congress and the presidency. However, the success of that referendum is not guaranteed.
As of writing, the announcement from the President has 22 “nay” reactions, and twelve “thumbs down” reactions, compared to only two “aye” reactions. It appears that this will be quite a controversial issue, as opposed to the quiet rubber stamp the bill’s proponents may have preferred.
The Reveille Times will keep readers posted about the referendum.
